That stands for the Everyday Geek on Steemit! It's an authentic peek into my life as a geek. New content every week!

This is a website dedicated to discussing all of the things that I enjoy in life and experience in my day to day work and hobbies.

I love to share my opinions, exchange information, live, love and grow as a person. This website will serve as a platform to put myself out there for the world to see.

Previously, I had managed a small site named Darryl's Domain that was co-hosted with my business website functions as my personal blog on the web. Giors is a rare name so it's also a place for family to gather and share. Visit often and enjoy the site. You're always welcome!

What is Giors?

Giors is my surname. My family traces back to Northern Italy close to the French border. Map it.  Although it is an Italian name, many have surmised that it has French roots.

The theory that the name has a French origin has some evidence to back it up. First of all, most Italian names end with a vowel or a double vowel. Examples of famous Italians are Giorgio, Sinatra, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Donatello, Rossini, Da Vinci. Visit this list of common Italian names. Not one ends in a consonant like Giors does.  That alone is only evidence that Giors is not Italian. The "French Connection" only exists because it's the most likely origin based on proximity.

Perhaps Giors is simply a shortened or contracted Italian name. I've found records of many people with the surname Giorsi, Giorsini, Giorsetto.

In America:

My relatives living in Southern California are the only Giors that I'm aware of. My grandparents on my father's side immigrated to the U.S. after they were married and didn't have children until they settled in Los Angeles, California. A search of U.S. death certificates yields 3 results; My grandfather, my grandmother and my father. My findings indicate that the family my grandparents started in Los Angeles and their descendants are the only Giors on record to have lived in the United States. I've only been able to find records for myself and 15 other relatives with the Giors name in this country.

In Italy:

This review of restaurant San Giors in Torino speaks of the fine dining available there. I wonder if I would be able to eat for free if I show some ID?  Famiglia! Mangia!
